In Huck-Finn, by Mark Twain, the most important theme in the book is humanity. This is shown when both Jim and Huck escape oppressive situations. Huck is escaping his drunk father and the prison-like enviornment that his father created for him. His dad had cut him off from all aspects of society and didn't allow him to communicate with the outside world. Jim, on the other hand, was oppressed in the evils of slavery and racism. This shows that although Jim and Huck come from two very different situations , they both want the same thing, which is to be free. The humanity theme is also shown when Huck and Jim form a friendship that is not based around the color of thier skin. This shows that even in a time of oppression of blacks, the most unlikely of friendships can form.

I agree that humanity is a theme in the book, i believe that the main theme is Endurance and looking out for ones self because if you look at every thign that goes on with jim and Huck they could not do it without having mental endurance. And if they did not look out for themselfs the story would be over before huck's dad came back into the town.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with humanity being a theme of this book. I feel as if the author incorporated this as a way to make a connection between "whites" and "blacks" in this time period. Generally, when people think of these times of oppression they tend to focus on the differences of black people and white people, not the bonds that could be formed from the similarities of two human beings, who just happen to look different from eachother.
ReplyDeleteI agree that himanity is a theme to this story. The author described how bad of an upbringing huck was delt with and how he managed to get out and also how Jim was a slave, obviously being mistreated as a human being. These two men got out of their sticky perdicaments and met up to soon become friends and escape from the evils in the world and begin a new and free life.
