In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, the most prominent theme is friendship. Huck and Jim's friendship is a driving force in this book and also it shows that friendship can be found anywhere and can overcome anything. Huck befriends a African American in a racial time and then helps him to escape. Also many times in the book Huck states how he values his friends.

I agree that friendship is a strong component to the theme, but i do not agree that it is the underlying theme. Through the events that occur during the novel, i don't think Mark Twain intended friendship to be the theme because he didn't add much partnership in the trials that both Huck and Jim faced. For example, when Huck and Jim came across the sinking ship. If friendship was as important as, for example, freedom, than Jim would have played a bigger role in this experience, rather than staying with the raft.
ReplyDeleteI too agree that the main theme of this in not friend ship but in fact it is the relience on your friend and yourself for without jim Huck would have had much trouble getting to the point he is at and without Huck Jim would not be there but instead he would be on boat down the river being sold for like 700 bucks.
